Sharm El Sheikh is one of Egypt’s most iconic tourism destinations, internationally recognized for its unique fusion of natural beauty, marine biodiversity, cultural heritage, and global hospitality standards. Sharm El Sheikh is one of Egypt’s most iconic tourism destinations, internationally recognized for its unique fusion of natural beauty, marine biodiversity, cultural heritage, and global hospitality standards. Located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, the city extends beyond its coastal identity to connect with the wider landscape of South Sinai, including the serene towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, as well as the spiritual and mountainous territories surrounding St. Catherine and Mount Sinai.

The rebranding proposal was developed to reposition Sharm El Sheikh as more than a conventional beach destination, presenting it instead as an integrated global experience where nature, adventure, wellness, culture, and international connectivity coexist within one destination identity. The strategic vision focused on highlighting the city’s multidimensional character; from its world-renowned diving sites and the ecological richness of the Red Sea, to its role as a leading hub for international conferences, diplomatic summits, and sustainable tourism initiatives.

The branding direction aimed to create a contemporary and emotionally engaging identity system capable of reflecting the city’s dynamic energy while preserving its environmental and cultural authenticity. Inspired by the harmony between sea, desert, and mountains, the visual approach emphasized movement, clarity, warmth, and global appeal, positioning Sharm El Sheikh as a destination that transcends tourism to become a symbol of connection, exploration, and transformation.

As one of the most distinguished destinations in the Middle East, Sharm El Sheikh continues to attract visitors seeking both relaxation and discovery, offering a rare balance between luxury hospitality, natural wonder, recreational experiences, and spiritual depth. The rebranding strategy was therefore designed to strengthen its international image while creating a unified visual and communication framework aligned with Egypt’s evolving tourism vision.

Galala University is one of Egypt’s pioneering national universities, established to redefine the future of higher education through innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and contemporary academic experiences. Since 2018, I have led the university’s branding journey, developing its complete visual identity, branding system, and strategic communication framework from the ground up. My role extended beyond identity creation to include long-term brand management, visual strategy development, and the refinement of the university’s positioning until 2022.

The project involved building a cohesive and future-oriented brand that reflects the university’s ambition to become a leading educational institution regionally and internationally. This included designing an integrated visual language, communication strategy, brand architecture, and experiential identity system aligned with the university’s academic vision and national development goals.

Located in Galala City overlooking the Red Sea, the university’s identity was carefully crafted to embody progress, innovation, and transformative learning, while establishing a strong emotional and cultural connection with students, faculty, and the wider community.

New Mansoura University was established as part of Egypt’s vision for developing fourth-generation smart cities and expanding access to advanced higher education institutions across the country. Located in New Mansoura City on the Mediterranean coast, the university was designed to serve as a contemporary educational destination that combines innovation, academic excellence, and future-oriented learning environments.

My contribution to the project focused on the development and refinement of the university’s branding and visual communication ecosystem, similar in scope to my work on Salman International University. The project included the design and development of the university’s visual identity, branding system, signage and environmental graphics, in addition to the enhancement and finalization of the overall brand communication framework until 2021.

The branding approach aimed to establish a modern, cohesive, and professional institutional identity capable of reflecting the university’s ambitious vision and strategic role within Egypt’s new urban development plan. Through a unified visual language and communication strategy, the project sought to create a strong and recognizable presence that reinforces credibility, innovation, and consistency across all physical and digital touchpoints.

As an emerging educational institution within one of Egypt’s most significant new urban developments, New Mansoura University represents a forward-looking model for contemporary higher education, where academic advancement, technology, and integrated urban identity converge within a modern and sustainable environment.

Salman International University was developed as part of Egypt’s new generation of smart national universities, aiming to provide advanced educational experiences that combine academic excellence with modern infrastructure and international standards. My contribution to the project focused on creating and refining the university’s branding and visual communication ecosystem until 2021.

The scope of work included the design and development of the university’s visual identity, branding system, signage and environmental graphics, as well as the enhancement and finalization of the overall brand communication framework. The project aimed to establish a clear, contemporary, and professional identity capable of representing the university’s vision while ensuring consistency across physical and digital touchpoints.

Through a strategic and design-driven approach, the branding was developed to reflect innovation, clarity, and institutional credibility, creating a unified visual experience that supports the university’s presence as a modern educational destination in Egypt.

    WHO I AM

    My name is Rania Nakhil, a Professor of Branding and a branding strategist specialized in identity development, visual communication, and brand positioning. I graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University, where my passion for design, strategy, and visual culture was first shaped.

    Throughout my professional journey, I have had the privilege of contributing to both academia and industry, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application across a wide range of national, educational, and institutional projects. In addition to teaching and academic leadership roles within private and national universities, I have participated in the establishment and strategic development of emerging educational institutions in Egypt.

    Alongside my academic career, I have led and contributed to the development of brand identities, communication systems, and visual strategies for prominent organizations and national projects. My work focuses on transforming vision into meaningful brand experiences through strategic thinking, cultural understanding, and carefully crafted visual narratives.

    I believe that branding extends beyond aesthetics; it is a strategic process that shapes perception, builds connection, and creates long-term value. Through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates design, communication, and brand strategy, I strive to create identities that are both visually distinctive and strategically impactful.

    Driven by passion, commitment, and continuous exploration, my work reflects a dedication to building brands that communicate with clarity, authenticity, and purpose.
